The Brief:

Fender, the world-renowned guitar manufacturer with a heritage dating back to 1946, approached us to design and install a lighting rig for their stage at The Great Escape — a three-day music festival hosted at Brighton’s Old Market Theatre — where headliners included Anna Calvi, Shame and Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes.

The challenge was simple: how do you transform an intimate club space into a venue that feels every bit as powerful and immersive as a full-scale rock arena?

What We Did:

Pre-production included the creation of detailed SketchUp visuals, lighting pre-visualisation using Capture software, and comprehensive lighting plots, alongside close collaboration with each artist’s lighting designer to ensure their individual requirements were met. Twelve bespoke lighting looks were programmed for every act, ranging from subtle, slow colour washes to complement downtempo performances through to high-energy, dynamic beam movements for the more upbeat artists. Our LD operated the rig on site across the three-day event to ensure seamless delivery throughout. We also supplied a vintage-style DJ backdrop featuring Edison filament bulbs suspended at varying heights against a rich, theatre-style red velvet drape, adding warmth and character to the stage design.
